Stephen J. P. Kupiszewski (“Steve”) was born in Lake Wales, Florida. He came to Arizona in 1981 as an All-American on a swimming scholarship to Arizona State University and was team captain for the 1984-85 season. Steve continues to swim and has a passion for swimming just ask him. Like his father, he attended Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama graduating in December of 1989.

After a brief solo practice, Steve became an Assistant Attorney General working in the representing Child Protective Services. Later he joined Tielborg, Sanders & Parks working on medical malpractice and insurance defense cases. Stephen returned to the juvenile law practice working in the Legal Defender’s office.

Steve was appointed to the Superior Court bench as a Commissioner and began his career as a Judicial Officer on August 3, 2003. Through the rotation process, Steve has presided over Criminal, Family, Probate, Juvenile, Mental Health, Tax and Civil calendars. He retired from his last rotation on a blended calendar serving Probate and Family Court cases on March 29, 2013. After two long days in retirement, Steve opened his Law practice working as Of-Counsel with his wife, Jennifer. There was not much of a choice as they had four kids in college at the time. In private practice Steve represents families in contested estate and trust disputes and financial exploitation matters including trials lasting as long as two weeks. Steve is an experienced and successful litigator who knows both the judicial side and the practice side of litigation. The entire firm benefits from the range his knowledge and experience.

While serving as a judicial officer Steve conducted hundreds of settlement conferences. Currently, Steve’s practice is focused on mediation in the areas of probate, civil, and family court cases. Steve brings his life experiences in competitive swimming and coaching to his ability to mediate. Steve has helped families in litigation and has empathy and compassion for their situation and participants feel that when he conducts a mediation. His ability to assess the likely outcome at trial while also appreciating the cost, time and toll of litigation allows him to successfully mediate cases and to share that with all sides to reach a resolution.

Steve is married to Jen Kupiszewski and they have a blended family of five children plus two grandchildren, Brynlee and Beckett, the light of their lives. Of course, they hope for more but keep that to themselves. Together they have one “child” their beloved dog, Scooby Doo. Their greatest accomplishment is they are five-for-five on college graduates and all of the children are full-time employed and self-sufficient!
